Rod is a member of Alitis’ Board of Directors with vast experience in the financial and transportation industries.
Rod Dewar is an ICD.D accredited Corporate Director by the Institute of Corporate Directors. He is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of a $2.8B retail and commercial banking, insurance, and wealth management business, and has held C-Suite and senior leadership positions in the financial services and aviation sectors. His aviation experience includes senior leadership of a global airline’s 22 airport operations and call center operations in Canada and the US, as well as international responsibilities in aircraft handling standards and procedures. He has successfully managed large, unionized employee groups (3,000 +), overseen large capital projects ($20-30M), managed corporate real estate (3.7M sq. ft.), and held both executive and Board roles in the aviation sector.
Through his work as both a leader and Corporate Director, he has accumulated extensive and broad-based experience in leading corporate governance practices, strategic planning, risk assessment, enterprise technology deployment, and project management. His current and past work has provided him with an elevated sensitivity to stakeholder interests and environmental issues. As a result of his banking and insurance leadership roles, he is fully financially literate.
His current board responsibilities include Independent Director of E-Comm 911, Chair of Consumer Protection BC, Chair of the Audit Committee for BlueShore Financial, and Chair of the Audit and Conduct Review Committee for BCAA.
Previous board roles include Chair of Nicola Wealth Management, Chair of the Planning and Development Committee for the Victoria Airport Authority, as well as Chair of the BC Ferry Authority, Vice Chair for BC Life & Casualty Co. (a Pacific Blue Cross subsidiary), and Chair of Credential Financial. He has also served on the Board of NEI Inc. (formerly Northwest & Ethical Investments) and served on the Advisory Council of the Royal Roads University School of Leadership. His community work includes past Chair of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Chair of a PGA golf tournament, Fundraising Chair for the Canadian Cancer Society, and he and his wife are active philanthropically in their community.
He and his wife Susan live in Victoria and have two adult children.
